this was a project that was so fun! a gal came into the shop a bit ago and was looking for a dining table...i showed her what i had, but she was looking for more of a rustic, wheathered, reclaimed wood top....i told her that i could build it for her and do a custom...she LOVED that idea! so we started off with a few designs and found one she really liked and figured out color and size. she also had a set of 6 chairs that she wanted to use with it, so i painted those the same color as the table base and found some cool fabric for the seats.
if you've seen some of my other posts, about the 1870 victorian...you know that when we were gutting it, we found some really amazing old tongue and groove planks on the exterior walls...fir. gorgeous! we used those planks for her table top and it looked absolutely amazing!!

repurposed building goin' on...
i just finished up a bunch of new projects and got them out on the floor yesterday! its all about repurposing...and i love how they turned out!
i had this antique door and wanted to make a cocktail table out of it...and was in love with the color it was painted..so i left it the original paint. one side is a cool spring green and the other was a pale yellow. left the old hinges and door knob plate on it. it has lots of chippy goodness going on!
i also have a bunch of these really cool old cabinet doors....some with missing glass, but this one had all the panes, so i turned it into a message board with some really fun knob hooks on the bottom! cocktails anyone?!?!
and a couple of old spool tables. the other one i made last week sold in a few hours...so i thought i should make a couple more! found some really cool industrial looking metal castor wheels for the bottoms. they would make fantastic side tables or even a table on your porch!

shop re-set!
last week i decided that the shop needed a little TLC...i've been so busy lately with custom projects, that i haven't done a lot to the shop floor.....needed some sprucing up! so last friday i completely moved everything around....put up new window displays and made a bunch of new things for the floor! the most fun, was redesigning the new 'check-out' area! i have a few things left to do.....but its started and im loving how its coming together!
the window displays were really fun....candid joy photography and i decided to do a joint display this time around! she does amazing newborn and high school senior photos....so we put a bunch of her work in the windows with my furniture. the newborn window is so stinkin' adorable!!!

FINALLY moved in!!
we were finally able to get partially moved in, the last couple of weekends! SO exciting! i am in love with my house already....even though theres still so much to do. i thought actually living there, and seeing all of the work that needs to be done (every second of every day), would be a little overwhelming..but it hasnt been....it gives me a new motivation to get it all done!
been really busy the last 3 weeks getting the finishing touches done upstairs and on the kitchen, so we could get in there. originally, we wanted to have all of the trim put up, and painted before we got in there....well, we decided not to wait. we wanted in! its mostly finished....a few window and door casings to put up and all of the crown, but its close. so the only downside to that is having to move the furniture away from walls to paint the trim...but i'll take it! still need to do a ton of touch-up painting on the walls..my pretty new walls have been gouged and marked already...sad.
here are a few new photos of the progress!
kitchen counter tops were just installed yesterday.....LOVE them!!! i chose to go with quartz. i wanted something light, with grey veining in it. i wasn't finding that in granite. i love them! now we can install the back splash!
we moved in, but peanut and i are staying at the parents again the last couple of days....we didn't have a chance to demo the living room, entry or den before we got moved in. so the livable part of the house was poly'd off and demoing has been going on the last few days. we knew there was a recent wall put up between the den and living room, which we were going to get rid of. it wasn't original and we wanted to build some cool sliding doors on a rail to section off the two rooms. the wall was 7" thick btwn the two rooms....so the HOPE was that they just sheet rocked right over the old wall...and maybe, just MAYBE there were old pocket doors in there!!!! demo began and we found this....a somewhat recent framed wall, WITH framing for pocket doors...but no pocket doors. bummer! so i wonder when the house was built, if these two rooms were just one big room?? we still have part of the wall to demo, and then maybe we'll be able to tell from the original framing.

WHOA! look at that mess! i've been talked to several times already about all the clothing i have....its ridiculous, i know. |
this is the laundry room vanity that the husband built. the top is made out of the reclaimed fir boards we found on the exterior walls. love it that we've found so many uses for it! |
